MAINTENANCE WORKS FOR LOCAL LANDMARK

Dubbo Regional Council is giving one of Dubbo’s important landmarks a fresh coat of paint.

Starting on 18 June, the Cyril Flood Rotunda in Macquarie Street will undergo scheduled maintenance works as part of Council’s ongoing commitment to our community spaces.

The painting works are expected to take approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

The Cyril Flood Rotunda, which was opened in 1991, stands as a tribute to Cyril Flood, one of Dubbo’s most beloved volunteers.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said the scheduled works are part of Council’s commitment to honouring Dubbo’s heritage.

“The Cyril Flood Rotunda is more than just a structure at the corner of Macquarie and Church Street. It’s a symbol of community spirit and generosity, and one our community should be proud of.

“Cyril’s legacy lives on through this community space and these works will ensure the Rotunda remains a vibrant and welcoming part of Dubbo for generations to come,” Clr Black said.

Mr Flood was a tireless fundraiser known for selling raffle tickets for countless organisations over several decades.

Despite living with the effects of poliomyelitis, Mr Flood’s resilience, cheerful spirit and dedication to the community made him a familiar and cherished figure of Macquarie Steet.

The Rotunda will be temporarily closed to the public during the works, with safety barriers in place around the worksite.

Council acknowledges the inconvenience the works may cause for the community, and thanks the public for their understanding and cooperation during the works.
