PLAYGROUND WORKS OVER COMING MONTHS
Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) will undertake works at three playgrounds in the region.
The works will start in the next two weeks and continue through to May 2026.
As part of the capital works program Dubbo Regional Council will remove the Theresa Maliphant Playground near the Dubbo Hospital in the coming days.
The playground was installed around 1994 and is currently at end-of-life requiring action for safety reasons.
In the 2025/2026 adopted Budget, funding was set aside for the removal of Theresa Maliphant Park and as a result Council will undertake the works in the coming weeks. Funds were not provided for replacement at this time.
To assist in a review of the playground, Council has been recording usage of the area via counter units over the past several months.
The data from these counters will be used to determine if the playground will be replaced in that same area, of if there is a better location for a playground in another area.
Following community feedback regarding the playground at Cameron Park, Council will also be undertaking works to modify the equipment in Cameron Park that has caused concern from park users.
Council has ordered a bridge from the playground supplier to improve access between the two major elements to provide greater access to the large slide for children playing on the equipment.
The works will be undertaken by the playground supplier in the new year in line with the relevant Australian Playground Standards.
Council is also upgrading the softfall at Jubilee Park where it has hardened and cracked.
The rubberised softfall at the heavy wear points within the playground will be replaced with the remainder of the softfall covered with certified playground bark chip.
This approach has been taken due to the age of the playground equipment which will result in its replacement in the next few years.
