‘SCENES FROM THE CLIMATE ERA’ COMES TO DRTCC

The Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) will host Belvoir’s world premiere of Scenes from the Climate Era on Saturday 21 June 2025.

Scenes from the Climate Era, written by acclaimed climate playwright David Finnigan, promises to be an immersive and thought-provoking production set against the backdrop of a changing climate that captures the exhilaration, frustration, and fascination of living in interesting times.

DRTCC’s Performing Arts and Venues Coordinator Tiffany Rowland said the production is unique in that it features five actors that move through more than 50 different scenes in 80 minutes.

“The show presents a number of interesting scenes: a group of friends reminisce about the last time they took a flight, before all that came to an end; landholders in Borneo confront western environmentalists over who owns the forest; a frog, the last of its species, starts calling for a mate, but there’s no-one to hear.”

Scenes from the Climate Era will stay with audiences long after they leave the theatre and spark important conversations about our collective future.”

“Belvoir are not being hypocrites: they are committed to reducing emissions during this production and will work closely with the DRTCC team to present it in an eco-friendly way. It’s a changing world, and DRTCC is at the forefront,” Ms Rowland said.

Belvoir Artistic Director Eamon Flack said the production company jumped at the chance to bring David Finnigan’s vision to life.

“We read this and simply had to do it. We haven’t had a script that’s generated quite as much energy as this one. David is a climate expert as well as a playwright, and the sheer dramatic impact of his expertise is frightening and invigorating. It’s not a play that wags its finger, it’s terrifically smart and human. If you’re looking for something about the big issues of this era, here’s a piece of theatre for you,” Mr Flack said.

Scenes from the Climate Era will play at the DRTCC on Saturday 21 June 2025 at 8pm.
