STUDENTS FLOCK TO DUBBO FOR CHILDREN’S THEATRE EXTRAVAGANZA

Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) is set to ignite imaginations and tug at heartstrings this August with two extraordinary children’s productions, captivating 2,000 young theatregoers from across regional New South Wales.

Schools from Goolma, Narromine, Eumungerie, Peak Hill, Nyngan, Trangie and Warren will descend on the theatre to witness the magic of Imagine Live and Beetle — two engaging shows that celebrate creativity, resilience and the wonder of our natural world.

Performing Arts and Venues Coordinator Tiffany Rowland said DRTCC was honoured to host audiences from right across regional NSW.

“These shared cultural experiences give children the chance to dream big, connect with powerful stories, and know their voices matter. Whether it’s dancing with dolphins in Imagine Live or discovering resilience in Beetle, we’re committed to making theatre memorable and meaningful for every young person who walks through our doors,” Ms Rowland said.

Created by the award-winning team behind Robot Song, Imagine Live springs from the pages of Alison Lester’s beloved book in a visually rich blend of live action, animation and digital puppetry. With interactive performances underscored by original music, children will spot leopards, dive with dolphins and even dig up dinosaurs! A heartfelt celebration of creativity, friendship and nature — even Nanas are invited.

The evening performance of Imagine Live on Wednesday 6 August still has tickets available.

There will also be a free special Library Reading for Imagine Live at Macquarie Regional Library on Tuesday August 5 at 2pm.

An instant Australian classic, Beetle follows a child and her backyard friend — a Christmas Beetle — on an adventure through the bush in search of his long-lost family. With larger-than-life insects, Freya Blackwood’s stunning animation, and Legs On The Wall’s signature physical storytelling, this nostalgic and uniquely Aussie tale explores connection, resilience and environmental wonder.

The 10am Friday 15 August performance of Beetle has limited seats remaining.

Patrons can secure their tickets by visiting drtcc.com.au, phoning 6801 4378, or visiting the DRTCC Box Office Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The theatre area has been cleared for operation by SafeWork as of Wednesday, 30 July 2025. Staff are working behind the scenes to have the space prepared for productions starting in August.
