‘THE QUEEN’S NANNY’ TO UNVEIL SECRETS BEHIND PALACE DOORS
Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) will be giving patrons an insightful glimpse behind palace doors as it hosts Ensemble Theatre’s The Queen’s Nanny in July.
From acclaimed playwright Melanie Tait and the creative team behind the 2021 hit Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race, The Queen’s Nanny follows the life of Marion ‘Crawfie’ Crawford, the nanny of princesses Lilibet and Margaret.
For 17 years, Crawfie devotedly educated and cared for the girls, becoming a treasured part of their lives, often sacrificing her own happiness for theirs. When Crawfie writes a revealing memoir about the little princesses, she is shunned from the family, completely. The catch is: she thought she had permission.
Performing Arts and Venues Coordinator Tiffany Rowland said the production will appeal to a broad range of audiences.
“If you enjoyed The Crown on Netflix, you will really enjoy this but also if you are not a monarchist, you will be able to relate to it as it portrays both sides of the story.
“It’s a thought-provoking take on motherhood, class, privilege and colonisation - it asks many questions about who gets to tell whose story and how it is some lives are considered more important than others,” Ms Rowland said.
During the school holidays, patrons can experience the royal treatment by getting half-price tickets to The Queen’s Nanny when a ticket is purchased to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. In addition, all patrons receive 20 per cent off their room rate at DRTCC’s Hospitality Partner, Bluegum Dubbo Motel. Both offers are redeemable at the time of booking.
The Queen’s Nanny will be performed on Saturday 12 July at 7:30pm.
Patrons can secure their tickets by visiting drtcc.com.au, phoning 6801 4378, or visiting the Box Office Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
