WHEELERS LANE UPGRADE COMING

Stage One of Wheelers Lane Reconstruction will start on Monday 22 May, with works to impact southbound road users between the railway line and Birch Avenue.

The start of the first stage of works will see the section of road reduced to one lane with southbound through traffic permitted until the start of the earthworks phase, which is expected in mid-June.

The existence of a disused water main and a gas main could cause delays to the first stage of works.

Council has planned as best as possible to mitigate risk from this existing infrastructure however both systems still have the potential to cause delays for the project schedule.

From the start of the second phase of works until completion a detour will be put in place for southbound traffic via Douglas Mawson Road and Sheraton Road.

Traffic will be diverted along Birch Avenue, Sheraton Road and Douglas Mawson Drive with signs in place.

Works are projected to be complete in September, subject to weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Road users are advised to take these changes into account when planning their route and to exercise patience and caution when driving through the area.

Stage Two works are expected to be undertaken in the 2023/24 financial year.
