$15,000 AWARDED TO WORTHY COMMUNITY GROUPS

This week Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) presented $15,000 to worthy recipients of the 2020/2021 Financial Assistance Program. DRC CEO, Mr Dean Frost, and Director of Liveability Ms Skye Price, presented cheques to the community groups that had made successful applications, followed by an afternoon tea.
10th DREAM FESTIVAL TO RETURN WITH POPULAR EVENTS AS HEADLINERS

After a little hiatus in 2020, DREAM Festival is returning to the Dubbo Region in 2021, with Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) engaged to work with the former volunteer-based committee to bring back some of the most popular events. Running from 14 – 24 October 2021, DREAM Festival is aimed at bringing some of the region’s most creative and talented producers together for 10 days of entertainment.
2022 COMMUNITY NEEDS SURVEY FIELD WORK TO START IN FEBRUARY

The Listies’ cheeky show is back on the road, after being stalled in 2020, and they’re bringing with them some side-splitting laughs and entertainment.

This summer, Dubbo Regional Council’s (DRC) Aquatic Centres in Dubbo and Wellington have partnered with the NSW Office of Sport in a new youth pilot program during Term 1, 2022. The Active Pools Youth Program is aimed at keeping 12-16 year olds active over summer.
AIRPORT ATTENDEES ASKED TO FOLLOW HEALTH ADVICE

Following the recent decision made by National Cabinet making masks mandatory within airport terminals from Tuesday 12 January, 2021, staff at the Dubbo City Regional Airport (DCRA) have implemented changes. All passengers and staff at the airport terminal are now required to wear facemasks, regardless of whether they are catching a flight or not.

The community is being assured that essential waste is still being received at its facilities, albeit with restrictions in place to protect the safety of Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) staff and the community. Under the Public Health Order, people are only permitted to leave home for a strict set of reasons, and while it doesn’t permit residents to attend the tip, it does allow a prescribed list of businesses and commercial waste operators to continue working.

The Dubbo community are advised that NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the Dubbo sewage system.

Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) has received $108,565 in funding from the Create NSW Performing Arts COVID-19 Support Package to be distributed to eligible clients who used the venue, and for the venue itself.

A significant project for Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) under the region’s Water for the Future Strategy is in its final stages of construction. The 19km non-potable water main pipeline will take ground water from the city’s established recreational bores to the John Gilbert Water Treatment Plant in times of severe drought. The dual pipeline will also allow treated recycled water from the Dubbo Sewage Treatment Plant to replace non-potable groundwater.

With the postponement of the Local Government Elections until 4 December 2021, Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has to formally elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the remainder of the Council term, as the current term concludes at the end of September. Both Councillors ran for their positions unopposed.

Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) has been selected as the pilot site for a first-of-its-kind project, where second hand (serviceable) solar panels are given a new lease on life. While solar panels are a popular way to save energy and promote better outcomes environmentally, there are unknowns around what happens to the solar panels when they are removed and replaced. DRC has partnered with Blue Tribe, CSIRO, and the NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment’s Sustainability Advantage to pilot an innovative solution to this emerging waste problem. This project has been funded under the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Circular Solar Grants Program.

The playground will include a wide range of equipment, such as: a rope play sensory dome geometric shaped blocks to motivate climbing; multiple swings; wheelchair accessible carousel; a springer, in-ground mini-trampolines; wee hoppers and much more. The new play space also incorporates the famous red rocket.

Dubbo Regional Council advises the community that Phase 2 of the Regional Network Leakage Detection Project has commenced in the Dubbo region on Tuesday, 6 December 2022 and will be carried out across the entire Local Government Area until February 2023.

WINGED VICTORY REVIVAL

Wellington’s Winged Victory statue at the Wellington War Memorial is about to receive a much needed renewal thanks to a partnership between Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) and the Australian Government. The “Winged Victory” Memorial, a Cenotaph, commemorates the people from Wellington, NSW, who died in conflicts from World War I onwards. The memorial was designed by Gilbert Doble in 1928, and unveiled in 1933, has experienced significant deterioration over the decades.

The Wiradjuri Gardens Dubbo, took out gold in The Landscape Association Commercial Construction category for projects between $750k and $1.5M.
YABANG GEE BRIDGE DUBBO REOPENS

The Yabang Gee (Tamworth Street) Bridge that crosses the Macquarie River in Dubbo, has reopened this afternoon following repair works that were required after the flooding events that took place last month.
